OUSD EXLO SUMMER INSTITUTE 2026 PRESENTS:

What does an after-school experience look, sound like, or feel like? Welcome to Joy Fest!

JOY FEST decodes CDE’s expanded learning expectations by providing OUSD youth service practitioners with of immersive professional development experiences. Participants engage in a diverse array of indoor & outdoor activities mirroring robust after-school programs. Attendees select from a range of activities guided by industry professionals as well as those that are self-led, fostering independence & confidence with opportunities to practice SEL skills. This adventure amplifies the importance of empowerment while participants demonstrate voice and choice in crafting their Joy Fest journey.

Joy Fest is a reset and a rally. The intention is to honor the passion and purpose of expanded learning champions who impact up to 18K OUSD youth - daily, to calibrate as a community, ignite motivation, and launch the year embodying inspiration, momentum, and excitement.

Joy Fest is happening on the last day of Summer Institute, Thursday, July 30th

WHERE?

Joy Fest will be held at Brookfield Elementary School, 401 Jones Ave, Oakland, CA 94603

ExLO Awards Ceremony

An event honoring the dedication, reliability, and excellence of our youth development community.
All Star Competitions

3-on-3 basketball, Tug o’ War Tournament, Kickball, and an exciting Color Run.
The Garden

A chill zone filled with music, art-making, a photobooth, & board games..
Gaming Zone

A video gaming experience for adults, inspired by our Middle School Gaming League. Come compete, connect, and level up in a space built for friendly rivalry and good energy.
GOOD EATS

Enjoy a delicious lunch and refreshing smoothies as you connect, celebrate, and fuel up for a great time together!
Prizes

Engage in challenges throughout the day and earn prizes! A prize table will be located in The Garden.
Workstation

Need to get work done but don’t want to miss out on all the fun? Walk into Room 11 from The Garden courtyard for a quiet space to work from.
