Yes! Sports

  • YES! Sports (Youth Elementary School Sports) is an after-school and Saturday enrichment program offered through OUSD's Expanded Learning department, designed to give elementary school students meaningful access to sports and physical activity. Rooted in three core values, joy, inclusivity, and skill development, the program offers a wide range of sports experiences led by community partners and sports providers across Oakland. Research-backed and equity-centered, YES! Sports aims to build not just athletic ability but also teamwork, leadership, and resilience, supporting students' overall health, academic performance, and self-confidence.

  • At YES! Sports (Youth Elementary School Sports), we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every child can learn, grow, and succeed - both on and off the field. We believe in the power of sports to bring joy, create a sense of inclusivity, and build essential skills that last a lifetime.

  • In addition to bringing quality programming to school sites throughout the week, YES! Sports extends its reach every Saturday by offering a diverse array of sports and enrichment activities for elementary students across Oakland. Each Saturday, YES! Sports also provides hot meals to over 500 students, ensuring that young people are nourished and ready to learn, move, and thrive.

  • Tanya Jackson and Chen Kong-Wick serve as the coordinators for YES! Sports, bringing thoughtful leadership and a genuine commitment to expanding sports access for Oakland's elementary students. Their work ensures that every aspect of the program runs smoothly, from community partnerships to Saturday programming, so that students can show up, play, and thrive.
